Lots of people ask,
"Do I have to serve dinner at the reception?" The answer is
"NO." Have a candle light ceremony at 7:30/8pm (so late most
people will eat before). I went to one and it was stunning...everyone was
so busy talking about how gorgeous it was, no one was saying, gee where is
dinner? Where's the reception food idea?
As most wedding
venues require last call to be around midnight this leaves approximately a 5
hour gap where no food is served. In general it is a wise idea to make
sure your guests have plenty to eat in an effort to counter act all the
drinking and dancing.
So, what a lot are doing is having the wedding cake first with a punch, then a couple hours later have a buffet (featured recipe! ) with wine/beer open bar, then way later start with appetizer shooters.
We have found that many brides and grooms want to offer their
guests late night snack options of simple bar type food like English muffin
appetizers and hors d'Oeuvres. Surprise shooter appetizers
served throughout the evening might include shrimp shooters, gazpacho
shooters, veggie shots or the great tomato soup and oysters, made Bloody
Mary style soup shooters that are great and impressive choices. Also
offering self-serve water and coffee is a simple way to make sure everyone is
staying hydrated into the late hours of the night. A great reception food
idea!
Or try to do something yourself!
I've also done this! and
I love it! How to set it up?
What better way to keep your guests dancing & carrying on than to surprise them on the dance floor with a delicious & well-thought-out snack. I'm loving that brides & grooms are doing this more & more because, let's get real, you probably didn't eat any dinner (too excited! too much going on!) AND there's nothing worse than a wedding ending too early. And who doesn't love a bite-sized snack? Have you ever heard of appetizers served in a shot glass! - think of the shooter ideas mentioned above (served in mini shiny white or gold plastic cups? Another reception food idea! ( A hot items message!)
Another thing to
remember is the theme of the church pew decorations/bridesmaids
dresses/reception decorations and what you serve should all reflect your theme
- animals, sport, art or flower etc. but keep it coordinated, OK?
